Shelly has worked as a psychiatric nurse, but she has also been a lifelong student of skincare. With an eye for detail and a history of testing every product under the sun, she’s always been the one reading the back of the label when everyone else was sold on the front.
Her skin has always been important to her, not out of vanity, but out of curiosity and self-respect. She’s used luxury creams, clean formulations, drugstore fads, and everything in between—searching for something that truly worked without compromising long-term health.
That search led her to tallow. And once she felt the difference, there was no going back.
Her background in medicine gave us structure. Her skincare standards gave us purpose. Shelly set the tone for ingredient integrity and clinical-grade simplicity. If it wouldn’t go on her skin, it doesn’t go in the jar.

A trained psychiatric nurse as well, his path led into energy work and holistic healing. He learned how trauma shows up in the body, how skin can hold emotion, and how touch—when paired with presence and intention—can shift energy at a cellular level.

The Chemist: Scientific Rigor, Soil Wisdom
Steve is the chemist. He’s also Brady’s father. And he’s the reason the foundation of Bougie Tallow is unlike anything else in the market.
Before the world talked about sustainability or regenerative farming, Steve was already doing it. Trained as a research chemist, he worked for a major chemical company but chose to put his hands in the dirt. In the early 1980s, he bought a depleted plot of clay-heavy land in Granville, Ohio, built a home, and raised a family with 7 kids on it.
Through composting, no-till practices, and rotational grazing, Steve transformed that land into rich black soil, producing lush pastures without a drop of synthetic fertilizer. What began as a garden and a few horses grew into pigs, chickens, goats, and eventually a thriving herd of grass-fed cattle.
By 2018, FH Farms had nearly 100 head of cattle, all fed on organic hay Steve harvested himself. He sold beef to families, local schools, and colleges—quietly building one of the cleanest, most ethical sources of grass-fed beef in the region.
That’s the fat we use. Nothing else.

Shelly brought the clinical clarity.
Brady brought the energetic depth.
Steve brought the raw purity and scientific backbone.

We render our own fat in Tennessee, small-batch and clean, using only the tallow from FH Farms and a few trusted partners who meet our standards.
