At Bougie Tallow Company, every decision is deliberate. Every jar tells a story, and every ingredient earns its place. Our essential oils are not there for scent alone. They are active participants in the healing, calming, and revitalizing work our balms and creams are designed to do.
When we source essential oils, we look for purity, potency, and a clean farming lineage. That is why we turn to Kukka and Majestic Pure. These suppliers offer oils that are tested for quality, free from fillers and adulterants, and always sourced with respect for the plant, the soil, and the end user.
Below is a full breakdown of the essential oils we currently use in our core Bougie Blend. These are not filler notes. They are the functional heart of our formulations.
Roman Chamomile
Soothing. Anti-inflammatory. Gentle enough for babies.
Roman Chamomile is one of the most skin-calming botanicals in existence. Its azulene content gives it that signature softness your skin feels instantly. We use this oil to target irritation, redness, and barrier breakdown. It is especially powerful for sensitive skin types or areas affected by eczema, rashes, or rosacea.
Chamomile’s floral notes are subtle and grounding. When paired with tallow, it creates a balm that wraps the skin in a blanket of comfort without overwhelming your senses.
Lavender
Balancing. Cleansing. Restorative.
Lavender has earned its place in nearly every healing tradition for a reason. It balances oil production, supports wound healing, and brings antibacterial benefits to the skin without being harsh or drying. It helps calm breakouts while simultaneously soothing the nervous system.
We use true lavender, never synthetic fragrance. The scent is soft, herbaceous, and familiar. It works beautifully alongside Roman Chamomile to anchor the blend with both emotional and physical calm.
Ginger
Warming. Stimulating. Anti-inflammatory.
Ginger is a powerhouse oil with stimulating properties that bring warmth and movement to areas of stagnation. We include ginger in formulas where circulation support is needed. It is especially useful for winter balm formulations or recovery blends intended to relieve muscular tension or sluggish skin.
Ginger’s warming action complements the natural insulation of tallow, creating a synergy that feels deeply therapeutic, especially on sore joints or tired muscles.
Frankincense
Cell-regenerating. Toning. Sacred and timeless.
Frankincense is the crown jewel of our oil blend. It is known for its ability to reduce scarring, support skin renewal, and calm reactive conditions like rosacea or sun damage. It is also incredibly grounding emotionally, making it a staple in nighttime skincare routines.
Our frankincense is sourced for high resin content, and its purity is unmatched. It is one of the most expensive oils we use, but we would never leave it out. Its resinous, woodsy scent deepens the entire aromatic profile of our balms.
Lemon
Brightening. Clarifying. Cleansing.
Cold-pressed lemon oil brings a gentle astringency to our formulations. It helps clarify the skin without stripping it and is excellent for evening skin tone and reducing dullness. While citrus oils can be irritating in high concentrations, we use lemon in very controlled amounts to harness its power without increasing photosensitivity.
Lemon also adds a touch of freshness that elevates the entire blend, making our balm feel clean and uplifting without being overly citrusy.
Geranium
Hormone balancing. Skin smoothing. Floral and fresh.
Geranium oil is often called the adaptogen of essential oils. It balances oil production, supports hormonal shifts that affect the skin, and has an uplifting floral scent that is both soft and energizing. Geranium is ideal for skin that changes throughout the month or with stress levels.
We use geranium to bring harmony to the blend. It is the note that ties together the floral and resinous components, giving the balm a roundness and sophistication that lingers softly on the skin.
Elderberry Extract
Protective. Antioxidant rich. Barrier supporting.
While not a true essential oil, elderberry extract deserves a place here. It delivers antioxidant protection, supports the skin barrier, and extends the shelf life of our formulations naturally. We include elderberry to strengthen the skin’s resilience and help the balm maintain potency over time.
It is gentle, effective, and always included at the highest quality available.
Why Kukka and Majestic Pure?
We did not choose our oil suppliers by price. We chose them by reputation, testing protocols, and plant ethics. Kukka provides us with clean, small-farm-sourced essential oils that are steam distilled without pressure, preserving the full chemical spectrum of the plant. Majestic Pure offers exceptional traceability and high-purity batches with GC-MS testing, ensuring we know exactly what goes into our jars.
